Le Monde

Today was a great day. It got off to a cracking start when I met my darling Michael for breakfast at Le Monde, Surry Hills. Having read a review in the coffee issue of the Good Living Guide from the Sydney Morning Herald last year, I had filed it away in my brain as a place to visit. Nestled rather inconspicuously on Foveaux St, Le Monde is certainly worth visiting, even if the handsome guy who smiled at me as I walked in, isn’t always there on his Macbook… The coffee at Le Monde is perfect. Bold but not bitter, strong but not intimidating and deeply satisfying. Large flat white is the way to go especially on a morning such as today, when there is the slight kiss of winter in the air.

Michael had scrambled eggs on sourdough with a side of Gypsy ham. Gypsy anything, automatically romanticizes and elevates, so it was thoroughly enjoyed. I had this delightful dish of scrambled eggs on sourdough with feta and spinach. Yum!

Le Monde does a coffee-driven breakfast degustation on Friday and Saturday mornings. It sounds amazing. I’ll let you know!
All full and merry, I take myself on a little stroll through Surry Hills to see what’s up, and all of a sudden, a car slows down and beeps at me. A young woman is waving madly. It’s Jessica! What a lovely surprise. An old school friend. We then go to Kawa for coffee. Fail. The coffee is awful, exacerbated by the fact I have just had one of the best coffees in town. But the company is lovely, and so is her one year old baby girl, so the crappy coffee fades in the distance. We talk about love, life and Jesus. Awe. Some! We were also both wearing gumboots as it was a rainy old day. Hers, canary, mine, floral. Just quietly, gumboots rock.

Although I didn’t rate the coffee at Kawa, I do rate their coffee loyalty card.
