Tall Short Espresso

After an early morning start which went pear-shaped very quickly, an exploration of cosy borough Paddington was a welcome treat. With beautiful old Queenslanders on sharp hills, and lots of greenery, Paddington is an inner-city spot with an aesthetic edge. The main street, Given Terrace (odd name) is dotted with hip cafes and lovely spots to pull up a bench and have a cup of joe.

Tall Short Espresso is one of these spots, and good coffee is certainly on the menu. The coffee is smooth but doesn’t lack the body and intensity I require in a coffee I deem to be “good”. It must be noted what one looks for in a “good” coffee, as I recently discovered whilst chatting to a Brisbane coffee blogger. He didn’t go gaga for the same cafe as I did, and I said, “ah, yes but what are you looking for in a coffee?”. Although we agreed that the texture of the milk is paramount (we like it velvety) he doesn’t like a brash in your face coffee flavour, he likes it mild and forgive me, somewhat weak. So really he doesn’t like coffee… No, no, I understand that there are people out there who like a weak coffee (year 10 students trying to be sophisticated) but I will never ever think a weak coffee is good. I need the coffee flavour to slap me around a little. I like playing with the big guns, not toy pistols. So the aforementioned coffee blogger would not have super enjoyed this cup, but I thought it was definitely on the good side… Plus they serve it with a super cute micro gingerbread man. Love.

The barista also liked my shoes. He has great taste.
