I haven’t had coffee since February. I was never by any means an addict, but I did enjoy the occasional cup, whether it be with poached eggs on a Sunday afternoon for breakfast, or with egregious gossip. Today I returned to the world of coffee (those last two words are perhaps unnecessary depending on how much you love a certain burnt sienna liquid). I am overjoyed to announce that this latte was one of the best I have ever had.
Look at it. Doesn’t it look sublime? All snug in its darling oversized egg cup, with its beautifully mottled crema. It was the perfect temperature and the perfect blend of kick and velvet.
Where is this haven serving some of Sydney’s best coffee? It is Latteccino (I know, the name is a little clumsy) in Concord West. We made the pilgrimage as a few weeks ago it was written up in the Sydney Morning Herald for having the best affogatos in Sydney. My mother ordered one. I tasted it. Just amazing.
Served in a red wine goblet, the secret weapon is coffee gelato. It swims in a double shot of di Manfredi espresso and is certainly not for the faint hearted, or those who like to use coffee to flavour their milk and sugar. It has balls. Big ones.
The staff at Latteccino is engaging and genuine, which is a nice change from the many up themselves, too many body piercings, strange haircutted, “I only wear vintage”, tattoo clad waiter and waitresses that seem to abound of late.
I will certainly be back. Oh, and the house-made pastries which we got stuck into on the car trip home may also keep me coming back.
