I lived in Perth for three years several years ago. Having not been back since leaving in 2005, it was a delight this week to return to my former stomping ground. Must Wine Bar of Highgate is an elegant, urbane establishment that has received much acclaim for its dedication to bringing the world’s best wines together, and has been awarded by Gourmet Traveller Best Australian Wine List of the year for a Wine Bar in 2009 and 2010. Although I did not dine there this visit, I have previously, and the food is a great showcase of tasty, modern Australian cuisine.
James and I shared the 2008 Kumeu River Village Chardonnay. A pleasant drop that displays an attractive pale gold hue and has tasting notes of hazelnut, ripe peach and finishes with a crisp flintiness. Very easy to drink.
