I love Sunday brunch. There is just something different about a brunch on Sunday; it’s informal, sacred, unfettered, real. It was real today. It was muggy in the packed-out corner cafe, that smells of sizzling bacon and big Saturday nights. Cafe Giulia on Abercrombie St in Chippendale, is great. It was introduced to me by dear friend Daryl, who lives round the corner from it. It is everything a buzzing neighbourhood cafe should be: the staff is friendly, the menu is huge and the vibe is just right.
I had only ever had coffee and treats like brownies there previously, but today I experienced their pancakes. One word: totallyawesome. For $10 you get three giant, fluffy pancakes, smothered in maple syrup (it comes on the side in a bottle, so the smothering is up to you) with marscapone. I couldn’t cross the finish line. By pancake number three, I was out of action… Quite possibly cos I was still full of the duck I ate last night. So if you order the pancakes, maybe take a friend, or don’t eat for a few days prior to your visit.
The only way to follow up such a brunching, is to walk it off. With a lovely stroll to Glebe, I still felt horrendously full, but now I was also hot…
