Tan Viet Noodle House

Firstly, let me express my bewilderment at the fact that today is the first of October! Where has the year gone? Secondly, let me tell you a story of a cross country pilgrimage to source crispy skinned chicken… I had been wanting to go to Cabramatta for months to immerse myself in the food and culture. Mum and I finally went the other drizzly, drab day. The place was bustling. Hustling and bustling. Not a decent park near the joint. We nabbed a half hour park on the main drag… Half an hour to eat and explore?! Whoa. This was not going to plan. I had done some research, and all the blogs (including this one) agree that the best crispy skinned chicken in town is at Tan Viet Noodle House. Of course, this is the restaurant with the sizable queue out the front… Twenty seven minutes left on the park… We are certainly not first in line, but the lady comes out, “Anyone need a table for two?”… Silence… “Yes! We do!”… Huzzah!

We are whisked in and seated and within a few minutes we are eating! They run a tight operation here at the ol’ noodle house. You don’t come here for the decor… It’s kind of like a hideous cafeteria… but you do indeed come and stay for the chicken. My decade of vegetarianism is on hiatus currently, and my carnivorous self dives into the chicken. Crack goes the skin, smack go the lips. It. Is. Delicious!

I ordered it with the egg noodles, which are rather subtle in flavour and make a good accompaniment to the chicken, espcially the bright hits of fresh coriander with the noodles.

We sipped on iced tea (green tea, iced) which was tangy and refreshing, although admittedly I did have to put a bit of sugar in mine. Mum took it straight. For $25 for the two of us, your buck gets a lot of bang in this hood. Check it out, but don’t drive.
