It was one of those gorgeous spring days where one feels happy for no reason in particular, but seems to derive joy from every small thing. I met the lovely Daryl at Reuben Hills in Surry Hills for lunch. A new terrace conversion, Reuben Hills serves simple fare in chic environs, and makes for a great spot to have a laid back yet vibey lunch. It’s times like this I am thankful for not having a “normal” job.
‘d read great things about the salted caramel milk shake. It does not disappoint. It is thick and delicious and just that right balance of sweet and salt. It takes a turn for the better as I near the bottom and discover a goopy deposit of syrup.
The NOT reuben-wagyu salt brisket, pickled slaw, melted manchego & horseradish cream is a sandwich that delivers. It is full of flavour and balances all the elements just right and I was most sad to part with it to eat half of the Soft Corn Tortillas Chicken with lime & ginger, sweet potato & adobo pepper salsa. I found the these to be too salty and a little heavy-handed on a generic malaise of herbs that reminded me of Pizza Hut’s All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Bolognese sauce. But that reuben… I would go back for a hit of that meaty, fatty, American-tasting goodness and nothing washes down succulent meat like a milkshake… Nothing Kosher about that!
