Justin Hemmes’ Merivale conglomerate is so expansive they now have their own food festival. March into Merivale is a festival in Feb-March that offers wining and dining specials and classes throughout the many Merivale precincts and restaurants. Tonight was the launch party and it, for lack of a better turn of phrase, “went off”. Spread throughout the Ivy complex, the evening was packed with wonderful ways to eat, drink and be merry (vale).
Smashed Hat and I (put us together and we are like a couple of Katharine Hepburns) knew we were onto a good thing when the live accordionist, well into his 60s, dressed in a gaudy floral shirt, began to play Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean. It was awesome.
There is nothing quite like a barbecued corn cob. Lipsmackingly good.
Ms G’s served up cocktails bubble tea style. Kitsch heaven.
The night worked on a token system. You had 8 tokens to use in exchange for various morsels and drinkies. The servings were generous too and by the end of the night we were full up. I knew it was going to be busy but I completely underestimated just how busy. It was a sea of people; the glamour pusses, the corporate types, old people, tourists, party-goers, the people who judge the rest… We were all there.
