An event hosted by Secret Foodies, Truffle Hunt launched the truffle season in Australia. Held at Kitchen by Mike, the event was swarming with people, all snatching at mussels and sourdough and truffle butter and polenta with freshly shaved truffle…
The irony was, here we were, gathered together to celebrate the decadent truffle… But the freshly shaved truffle, big levaes of it, topping our polenta, had absolutely no flavour. Not only did they not taste like truffle, which is a strong and distinctive flavour, they didn’t have a taste at all… Just a texture, like shavings from an elephant pedicure.
Luckily, there was other food to eat, and there was wine to drink and there was good company to be had (thanks Alix and Mirna). And there was wine to drink… Did I mention that already?!
Oh, and I ate a purple potato.
