Mandoo

You can tell from the crowds that this wee dumpling house on Bank St in the Adealide CBD is serving something the people cannot get enough of. It is a Tuesday night, and there is luckily one table left. Modest in its decor, Mandoo is all about fresh, fast dumplings and soups. Run by an older couple, the service is prompt and very friendly. There is no pretense or attitude here. Thank goodness.

There are only two types of dumpling on the menu: pork or chicken. Variation comes from whether you choose to get them deep-fried or not.

The chicken dumplings are soft and pillowy, packed with flavoursome morsels of chicken. The dipping sauce, however, is what makes these dumplings pop. It is fiery and full of arrogance. I almost have to stop myself from licking the bowl clean after the dumplings have disappeared…

I have never had a deep-freid dumpling before, but would certainly again after these beauties. Lightly golden-brown, there isn’t that much of an adulteration from the traditional dumpling, just slightly firmer with a hint of crunch. The pork is seasoned perfectly and again, when dunked in that chilli sauce, these dumplings are just super.

Dining here is a brief affair, you’re in and then you’re out, but you’re satisfied and at under $20 for two, Mandoo is a sure fire thing.
