The best burger in Sydney is not at The Shakespeare Hotel. Famous for its $12.50 meals, The Shakespeare Hotel (the Shakey) is somewhat of an institution, yet one that had eluded me all these years. I thought I’d try the burger not only to satisfy my quest for burgerial perfection but also because it was recommended by the staff as one of the best things on the menu.
I can see why people flock to this pub. People love cheap things, and yes, it’s cheap but the burger was very average. It was not pink. It was not greasy. It was not smoky or charred or anything lovely and it had awful bits of onion strewn throughout the patty. There is nothing worse than trying to add flavour to a burger than by shoving onion into the meat.
The bun, was a little glazed bit of heaven though, so yay for a good bun. What it encased mind you, was lacklustre at best and there was no sauce on the burger, just mustard. Odd.
I feel I have already given this burger too much attention, so I shall stop.
