While whizzing through Kingston on the bus the other day, my eye caught an emerald-hued sign that read Farm Fresh Burgers. After a quick Google, I knew I had to come and check it out as the pictures looked fantastic. The pictures didn’t lie. For a Friday night, my Partner in Crime and I were the only people in the joint, but that’s not because of the quality of food. Apparently things are quiet there when uni is on holidays, and they do a roaring home delivery trade.
The fit-out is comfortable and clean with its Tolix-style chairs, wooden tables and caged-bulb lighting. All the staff who serve us are friendly which is always a welcome thing. Now, down to business.
I order the American burger which is beef, American cheese and mustard, iceberg, and turkey bacon (£7.25). There is no bacon bacon as the restaurant is Halal friendly. She looks delicious. Her bun glistens in the light. Most outstanding. I bite into her. Yes, yes, yes. Packed with flavour and my goodness, that bun, that bun!! The meat is well seasoned, and has the necessary char and smoke and grease. She isn’t too pink but it doesn’t seem to matter.
My Partner in Crime orders the Crispy Legend (£7.50) whose distinguishing feature was the addition of shredded crispy potato. A most welcome addition. We both think the turkey bacon is pretty darn good, although we were skeptical, our doubt has been silenced.
The chips are yummo with their lashings of rosemary salt. Rosemary and potato are meant to be. Never forget that.
Now, I love a shake, and sadly there are many poor attempts at shakes in the world, however, these babies aren’t some of them. These shakes are outstanding. The vanilla is sweet and has that depth only really vanilla bean can provide. The chocolate is chocolatey – my eyes light up as I see it coming toward me; it’s a rich brown, not a chocolate shake suffering from anaemia, so I can already tell they haven’t been skimping on the flavour. It is so damned good; thick and cold and decadent. Yesssss.
With home only a short walk away, we leave feeling very satisfied. We will definitely be back. Even if you’re not a local, if you’re a die-hard burger enthusiast, it is definitely worth making the trip. Bring a crowd and enjoy.
