La Genova

In the heart of Mayfair, lies an unassuming, traditional Italian trattoria, La Genova, and as soon as you enter, you are transported to Italy. It was lovely to finally eat here with my friend who told me about it originally. The last time we saw each other we were at sea, somewhere in the UAE, drinking cocktails and shouting over loud music.

La Genova has a classic menu, filled with old favourites, however, they also have a selection of daily specials, cooked however you like, that are presented to you on a cart. Using the freshest of seasonal produce, it’s hard not to be lured. The asparagus looks amazing; tall, emerald stalks – so it gets ordered.

Having had Spaghetti Vongole a couple of times recently in Italy, I feel I need to order this because firstly, I love this dish, and secondly, I need to compare. Big tick. In fact, better than what I had in Ravello. The pasta is full of flavour and is demolished rather quickly. What I love about food like this is its simplicity of ingredients, but powerful impact.

There isn’t an ounce of pretension at La Genova; the food is honest and hearty, the service is friendly and it saves you the airfare for an authentic Italian experience.
