The burger from Public (gastro-pub in Manuka) is your average pub burger with the lot. I don’t think I am a fan of the lot. All of that added frim-frammery just detracts from the task at hand, which is that delicious, juicy meat. Not to sound cruel, for the burger was not bad, however, it was unremarkable. It just seemed to be a stack of ingredients, and lacked the two integral factors of my brger judging criteria: the grease factor and the smoke/char factor. A non-greasy hamburger doesn’t excite me and nor does one without the ebony kiss of char.
If you are a fan of healthy tasting burgers, where everything just tastes how you’d expect it to: the fried egg tastes like a fried egg etc, and there is no inter-ingredient funky dance going on, then the burger from Public is for you. If you’re a burger whore, desperate for your next burgasm, you’ll be sleeping rather restlessly tonight.
