With a focus on small batch gin producers this week, the Hackney Drinks Market makes for one of those summery Saturdays in London, when nothing else exists but you, your company and your drinks.
With samples to try, there was something wonderful about the roughness and rawness of these small-batch gins; full of flavour they aren’t as elegant as some gins but they are exciting.
Shout-out to The Craft Cocktail Co with their Big Smoke Bloody Mary – the hickory infusion makes this drink utterly sublime.
The yellow-tomato juice bloody mary with Kamm and Sons (the handsome yellow bow tied man was a draw card too, wasn’t he Melinda?!) was also a highlight, Kamm and Sons is an aperitif made with a whopping forty-five botanicals, including ginseng, echinacea and goji berries – it’s practically a health tonic!
The IPA from Wild Card Brewery is crisp and tropical and very summer. It reminds me of a lot of the craft beers being brewed in Australia currently.
